I encourage my piano students to practice their “circled pages” 15 minutes daily. This daily practice allows students to continue to make forward progress and enjoy the rewards of being able to play their very favorite songs with confidence and ease!
Circling the pages that I would like the student to focus on for the week, allows them a clear and simple goal. Because I have been teaching for many years, I am able to give a student the perfect amount of music to play at home, as well as guidance during the lesson and how to practice, independently.
I use a layered approach, which means I am always preparing students for what they are going to learn next. Students are prepared to “go ahead” farther than the circled pages, if they desire to! This is wonderful, because it allows students to always feel as though they are achieving, or exceeding their goals.
I give rewards in my studio, when students meet goals, both big and small.
